Jesus often taught in public gatherings using parables. Parables are stories that illustrate a spiritual principle and often provide an instructive example or a lesson. In the Gospel of Mark, Jesus taught a parable of the seed in chapter 4. After he finished his teaching the disciples asked Jesus what the parable meant. Mk 4:10
And he said unto them, Unto you it is given to know the mystery of the kingdom of God: but unto them that are without, all these things are done in parables:
That seeing they may see, and not perceive; and hearing they may hear, and not understand; lest at any time they should be converted, and their sins should be forgiven them. Mark 4:11-12 KJV
The mysteries of the kingdom of God are not kept from you but reserved for you through the Holy Spirit. We may have asked ourselves, “Why couldn’t Jesus speak plainly so everyone could understand?” The truth is we need the Holy Spirit to help us understand these spiritual principles and lessons Jesus taught us. The words that Jesus spoke are spirit and they are life and we must have the Holy Spirit to understand them. Someone who has not received Jesus as their savior will not understand the Bible and especially parable teachings. Through faith, they must hear the truth about Jesus and what He did for us on the cross. When a person believes and speaks from their heart about this account they can ask to receive Jesus as their savior. At the moment this happens, the person receives the Holy Spirit.
That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. Romans 10:9-10 KJV
Many people who are not born again have read the Bible but they were and will only be able to read it as stories. This will also be the only way they can see the truths that are written. They wouldn’t be able to see the spiritual side because without the Spirit of God in you one could not see or experience the kingdom of God without perceiving one has. There is a scripture in 1 Corinthians 2:14 that says:
But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.
This is saying that a person who does not have the spirit of God cannot receive the things of God because he thinks they are foolish. The last part of the scripture means they can only be detected or recognized spiritually.
The teachings and the parables of Jesus are for His followers. They are meant for you and they will bless you tremendously when you are searching for truth and answers while living in this world.
