Descend with a Shout

For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. ~ 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17 KJV

Have you imagined this scene in your mind? It is quite amazing and very descriptive if you let your mind draw the images that are written in these scriptures. We were created to be able to imagine. He speaks to us in pictures and his words can also create images in our minds. One of the things he tells us to do is be focused on heavenly things because when we focus on the promises the trials we face won’t keep us bogged down with a burden. We are constantly bombarded with negativity but when we focus on those things that are good and lovely we can have peace. We know through faith that something better is ahead.

Set your affections on things above, not on things on the earth. ~ Colossians 3:2 KJV

When you think about Jesus’ return you are focused on things above. You are thinking about the promises that he has given us. When you feel sad or depressed observe what is on your mind at the time. If it’s good then it is impossible to be sad. We cannot let our minds drift to negative thoughts or it will bring us down. Look above and hold on to your promises. Our future is bright and there are amazing things waiting for you if you don’t grow tired and weary.
