Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father; but is of the world. 1 John 2:15-16
~ Those are strong words but it’s true. As always! Why trade someone who can give you pleasures for eternity for this world that gives you pleasure for a “short” time? Another way to say these scriptures is – there are a lot of things that you desire in this world but make sure you love God more than these things. If you care more about this world and the nice things you can experience then God isn’t in you. Your heart is some place else. If His presence was in you then you would prefer to be with Him than to stay here and enjoy pleasures that fade. And that does not mean you can only “be” with Him when you die. You can experience Him daily if you want.
Don’t get me wrong! God wants you to have nice things in this life too. It’s part of being blessed and being able to be with Him now is one of them. But He wants to be FIRST in your life. Even to the point that you would be willing to give up those “nice desires” if He called you to do something for Him.
