Seeds

Even though I know that God’s word produces revelation in one’s heart I still get amazed when the Holy Spirit teaches me something that makes me say “wow!” Today as I was reading a book that a dear friend gave us recently called “The Favor of God” by Jerry Savelle, I noticed a valuable piece of information pertaining to God’s Word. I have read these verses several times in the past but today something new appeared. That is the beauty in reading God’s Word with an open heart. Things you have read before will amazingly stick out in a different way.

And the Lord God said unto the serpent, Because thou has done this, thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shall thou eat all the days of thy life: And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel. (Genesis 3:14-15)

God set down laws for His creation to flourish. Everything was created with some type of “seed” to multiply and carry on. Through seeds trees are able to produce more trees; fruits with seeds are able to germinate more fruits; animals are able to mate and have more animals and of course humans also have the ability to procreate and continue reproducing.

So the interesting thing the Lord opened my eyes to today was that through Adam and Eve’s disobedience there was another seed that germinated or began to sprout from that day. It was an evil seed. It was a seed that came from the deceiving devil or serpent through words that he spoke to Eve. It caused her to doubt God’s goodness and her own identity.  That seed was a seed of evil that wants to steal, kill and destroy everything that God created.

The seed of evil was apparent in her first born son Cain. He did not have respect for God or place Him in high reverence. He was jealous of his brother Abel and that evil in Cain’s heart eventually caused him to kill his brother.

But God was not worried. He had a plan. He spoke it on that day when he said:

And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed;

I underlined “thy seed” above so you could see that God was speaking about a seed the devil created. The Lord God planned a way to remove that seed permanently. If we have read anything about Jesus we know that Jesus is the “promised seed” first to Israel and then to the world. God prophesied Him into existence with the power of His words. He is the One who would be born of a virgin to save humanity from sin. Some major effects of sin are spiritual and natural death. We can also call them an eternal separation from God.

In the Garden of Eden when Adam and Eve disobeyed God there was a spiritual death that occurred. The very first effect that man felt was fear due to that spiritual death. There was no existence of fear until that separation between God and man developed. Because God is so loving, He did not stop seeking the company of Adam or Eve. He still wanted to be with them BUT man had changed.

As you continue to read in the bible you can see that God made a promise to Abram:

And the Lord appeared unto Abram, and said, Unto thy seed will I give this land: …(Genesis 12:7)

evil-seedGod’s promises operate through faith. If you don’t use faith you will seek to make it happen in a natural way and in your own way. We can learn through Abram that if we do not stay in faith we can create a path God never intended for us to go on.

So if you have a promise from God wait patiently and expect results. Don’t let that one evil seed contaminate what God has planned for you. We are the only ones that can deviate God’s plan. Let’s let His seed of promise flourish in our lives and the glory will be all His.
