The Seventh Day – The Day of Rest

Today’s topic is regarding the seventh day. This teaching will be interesting because you may not have connected the creation of the world with the return of the King. Prepare to dive deep in the Word and let your spiritual eyes see something new.
When God created the earth He did everything in 6 days and rested on the 7th. This is so symbolic and it shows us the plan of God. The apostle Peter gives us a clue which is very important. Many people have disregarded this scripture to mean it was nothing but a mere cliche. But is it only a cliche or does it reveal something else?
But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. 2 Peter 3:8 KJV
Peter does not want us to be ignorant of what he is saying. With the Lord one day is as 1000 years. Many people have wondered how is the earth 6000 years old especially when scientists say it is billions of years old. Here is the answer. The timeline of the Bible is one answer. When you add up all the events and dates of the writings they add up to about 6000 years. Another clue is one day is equivalent to 1000 years. If the the earth is 6000 years old then this is telling us we are in the 6th day. In the eyes of the Lord it has only been 6 days. Jesus will reign in the last day, the 7th day. Jesus is our rest and He even tells us this in Matthew 11.
Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Matthew 11:28 KJV
If you have read the Bible you have for certain heard this scripture. If we apply this scripture in our life our response is we are to go to Jesus when we feel tired and burdened, usually from the worries of this life. Humanity has been working for 6 days = 6000 years. But with Jesus we find our rest. Through Jesus we are able to experience peace and comfort. It is like a taste of heaven here on earth until He returns. When you experience His presence and peace you know there is more to come.
The Bible warns us that people could come short of entering His rest. His rest is both physical and spiritual and it is a place on earth.
Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of entering into his rest, any of you should seem to come short of it. Hebrews 4:1 KJV
As I stated earlier, we are working hard to rest. We go in and out of this peace He can provide. It is constant work trusting in the Lord when we face challenges daily. Some more difficult than others. But Jesus encourages us and tells us to be cheerful because He has overcome death and the world. We will eventually live in the true peace if we don’t give up.
For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his. Hebrews 4:10 KJV
Once we enter in to the rest of Jesus we do not have to work as hard anymore. Our bodies can be renewed. There are many enemies of God and these enemies will also fight you and drain you of your strength, as well as, your faith.
Seeing it is a righteous thing with God to recompense tribulation to them that trouble you; 7 And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels, 8 In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ: 2 Thessalonians 1:6-8 KJV
But there will be a time of payback, so to speak. The ones who troubled you will go through “affliction”, which is another meaning for tribulation, as the scripture states. Anyone who does not know God will experience the fire of the Lord.
We will rest with Jesus when He is here with us. We have been working because of Adam’s disobedience and Satan’s deception. But we have been blessed to test out what it is like to be with Jesus when we live on this earth now. Through faith, we have tasted what it would be like to have heaven on earth.
So I sware in my wrath, They shall not enter into my rest. Hebrews 3:11 KJV
The rest of Jesus is also referring to His kingdom during the millennial reign. It is the seventh day in God’s time frame.
And to whom sware he that they should not enter into his rest, but to them that believed not? Hebrews 3:18 KJV
To the Israelites the rest was the promise land but they did not enter because of a lack of faith. The Lord promised them a place to live that belonged to them. It is still open for grabs once they believe in Him. To everyone else who has been adopted into the family of God, He promised us rest and it is the seventh day. They both coincide with each other. Israel will live in the promise land and the gentiles will live in the seventh day which is also considered the millennial reign, His kingdom and His rest. All of these words are synonymous.
For he spake in a certain place of the seventh day on this wise, And God did rest the seventh day from all his works. Hebrews 4:4 KJV
God rested on the seventh day from all His works. We will be able to rest from all our works too. We work to pay bills, we work for our food, we need to prepare our food and cook it, we work for our clothes, we work to get the devil off our back, we work to believe God’s promises. We can get worn out in this life with all types of work but we need to remember we have rest coming to us. When we do not have to worry about anything. We will have peace for a while and we will enjoy each others company instead of raging wars and arguments.
There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God. Hebrews 4:9 KJV
The Lord has often spoken things and they have deep meanings which can encompass various things. For Israel, “the rest” was and still is in Jesus. They still have not surrendered to Jesus and they truly do not have rest. They are persecuted left and right and many people want to kill them. They fight their enemies on a daily basis. This rest will be welcoming to them once they understand it. As of now, they have a veil that is blinding them to the truth. But the Bible tells us it will be lifted once all the gentiles are saved.
We are approaching the end of the 6th day, or in the words, the end of the 6000 years is coming soon. When the Lord returns it will start the last day and we know that day is considered the seventh day. This is the day of rest we will find in the Lord. One day is like a thousand years and we will spend the thousand years with Him here on earth. It also called the Day of the Lord. He will be with us for a thousand years as our King and in the spiritual realm it will be like one day.
In conclusion, everything the Lord does and says has meaning. When God created the earth He did it in 6 days and rested on the last day. I am sure you have thought of Saturday or Sunday as the day of rest. Instead of looking at the 7 day calendar, look at it from the point of creation. Now we know we will also have rest on our 7th day when the Lord Jesus returns. Once He removes all the enemies, this includes death, we will live with Him forever resting from all our works.
So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory. 1 Corinthians 15:54 KJV
And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works.14 And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. Revelation 20:13-14 KJV
These scriptures show you Jesus will rid the earth of death and hell. They will be thrown into the fire that never ends. At that point, our rest is complete and a new heaven and a new city will descend from heaven to give us a new earth. Hallelujah!
