Zechariah Prophesied the End Times

Zechariah Prophesied the End Times

Today I would like to focus on what the prophet Zechariah spoke in the Old Testament about the end times. Zechariah was the author of the book in the Bible of the same name. You will find it right before the book of Malachi. He was the father of John the Baptist who prepared the way for Jesus’ arrival. You are going to find this very enlightening and it will tie in events of the end times.

In that day, saith the Lord, I will smite every horse with astonishment, and his rider with madness: and I will open mine eyes upon the house of Judah, and will smite every horse of the people with blindness. Zechariah 12:4 KJV

In this first explanation of the scripture above we will discuss the use of the horse and rider. In the Book of Revelation chapter 6 we are given the description of 4 riders. If you have read the study we did in the past of chapter 6 of Revelation you will understand what this means. The riders of the horse are leaders and the horse itself can represent people. You can read more about Revelation chapter 6 and the horses described through this post.

The leaders will be struck with madness and the people with blindness. This isn’t actual blindness but a spiritual blindness. This means they are not seeing what is happening spiritually. The “madness” the leaders experience is the idea they think they can destroy the people of God. The people will be following these leaders because they have become blind and it seems the right thing to do.

And the governors of Judah shall say in their heart, The inhabitants of Jerusalem shall be my strength in the Lord of hosts their God. Zechariah 12:5 KJV

As you see in this scripture the “governors” of Judah or leaders, as I mentioned earlier, will think they can overcome because the people will side with them. This is the “madness” I was describing before.

In that day will I make the governors of Judah like an hearth of fire among the wood, and like a torch of fire in a sheaf; and they shall devour all the people round about, on the right hand and on the left: and Jerusalem shall be inhabited again in her own place, even in Jerusalem. Zechariah 12:6 KJV

When the Lord returns he will make those governors who are in Judah be like a pan on wood and like a torch of fire in a sheaf that will also devour the people around it on the right hand and on the left.

The Lord also shall save the tents of Judah first, that the glory of the house of David and the glory of the inhabitants of Jerusalem do not magnify themselves against Judah. Zechariah 12:7 KJV

When Israel is being trampled by the neighboring countries the Lord will save the houses of Judah first. He does this so the inhabitants of the city  Jerusalem won’t magnify themselves. Remember they are being taken over so this helps them to see the Lord is with them. The tents of Judah is referring to the household and they are the descendants of the house of King David. This is also the lineage which the Lord Jesus came from so this is why we see it will be saved first.

In that day shall the Lord defend the inhabitants of Jerusalem; and he that is feeble among them at that day shall be as David; and the house of David shall be as God, as the angel of the Lord before them. Zechariah 12:8 KJV

On the day when the Lord will defend the inhabitants of Jerusalem men will be like David. This is referring to the love the Lord had towards David because his heart was also for the Lord. Those men who are weak will be protected by the Lord as he did with David against his enemies in the Old Testament. The house of David will be as God because as Jesus comes from the tribe of Judah this lineage brought God to us and he is as the angel of the Lord who went before them to make a way.

I try to visualize these images as I read the scriptures and see how these events fit together. I also see other scriptures that tie in with this one. If the Lord is descending this means the 7th trumpet has sounded. This also means the inhabitants and the converted Jews will not be present in the city when he comes. I say converted due to the fact that the two witnesses  mentioned in Revelation 11 will have prophesied to gain converts for the Lord and once they are killed and resurrected the Jews and inhabitants who believe will be taken to heaven once the trumpet sounds. The ones who will be left behind are the enemies who do not believe.

For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: (17) Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17 KJV

Those inhabitants of Jerusalem and the rest of the Israelites that believe in Jesus will be transformed when the trumpet blows. This is why they will not be present when the governors are on fire.

And it shall come to pass in that day, that I will seek to destroy all the nations that come against Jerusalem. Zechariah 12:9 KJV

In this scripture we see that the Lord will want to destroy all the nations who come against Jerusalem. The neighboring nations are planing to join together to destroy Jerusalem but the Lord will intervene. In the last 5 scriptures of this chapter we read there is mourning from all houses and husband and wives are separated.

And I will pour upon the house of David, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the spirit of grace and of supplications: and they shall look upon me whom they have pierced, and they shall mourn for him, as one mourneth for his only son, and shall be in bitterness for him, as one that is in bitterness for his firstborn. Zechariah 12:10 KJV

As you see in this scripture it says the Lord will pour upon the house of David, this represents the Israelites, the spirit of grace. The spirit of Grace is also the Holy Spirit. Remember for them to be taken when the 7th trumpet sounds they must have the spirit of God as their garment. They must be believers in the Messiah.

For now we will stop here but we will continue this study going into the day of the Lord and what will happen then. Mediate on what you read here and ponder this in your heart. Be blessed!
