The Book of Revelation

Have you ever read the book of revelation? Or is it one of those books in the bible that you skip because it’s too scary or too complicated to understand?

Blessed is he that readeth, and they that hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written therein: for the time is at hand. ~ Revelation 1:3 KJV

You can be more blessed if you read this book. In my observation and in conversations with people I have often heard people say they don’t read it because it’s too complicated to understand, or it’s too scary because of the descriptions and imagery you read or people just believe it doesn’t apply to them today because it’s a prophetic book.

Well, I can certainly tell you that that is far from the truth. Yes, there are things that belong to the future but there are things that apply today.

Write the things which thou hast seen, and the things which are, and the things which shall be thereafter; ~ Revelation 1:19 KJV

In this scripture Jesus tells the Apostle John to write down the things that he saw, which refers to things in the past, the things which are, which refers to present things and the things which shall be thereafter, which refers to future things. Chapters 2-3, which are the seven letters to the seven churches refer to the churches in John’s time which he was in charge of back then but interestingly enough, they also apply to present day churches.  Can you believe we can still see churches doing the same things now? Read this scripture in the letter to the church of Smyrna:

I know thy works, and tribulation, and poverty, (but thou art rich) and I know the blasphemy of them which say they are Jews, and are not, but are the synagogue of Satan. ~ Revelation 2:9 KJV

There are churches today where the people call themselves Jews and in reality they weren’t even born Jews. Pastors of these churches teach their congregation to do the commandments in the Law of Moses that were only given to the Jews so they would look forward to the arrival of the Messiah [Jesus] that could deliver them. They cause the people to be in bondage again to something they can never accomplish and rely on their works instead of what Jesus did for them at the cross. So Jesus is calling this type of church a synagogue of Satan. The apostle Paul also mentions in the book of Galatians that any teaching that perverts the gospel of Christ is cursed.

I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel: which is not another; but would pervert the gospel of Christ. But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed. As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed. ~ Galatians 1:6-9 KJV

If you look up the word pervert in the online merriam-webster dictionary it says – a: to divert to a wrong end or purpose: misuse. b: to twist the meaning or sense of: misinterpret. Jesus never taught you had to be a Jew to be right with God, or you could only please God if you are a Jew. So why do pastors teach their congregation/sheep to call themselves Jews and practice things they can never complete?

I pray that you would be encourage to read and to know more about the book of revelation. It is full of things that we should know today. Be blessed and know that he wants to reveal more to you. The more we know the better it is for us. If you push yourself to study and ask him to help you understand He will gladly oblige. Don’t let your lack of knowledge cause you to perish. So it’s not too late! Start reading and studying today!
